Altvs

Napa Valley, California

Altvs is a project begun with the 2005 vintage at Merus winery in the Napa Valley. The idea: to produce hand crafted, small lot Cabernet Sauvignon based wines that celebrate the hedonistic qualities of lushness, density and ripeness while remaining true to the intensity and power of modern day Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. In a very short time since its initial release, Altvs has captured the imagination of an international audience, garnering critical acclaim through the world of fine wine.

Audelssa

Sonoma Valley, California

Audelssa Estate has one of the most distinctive vineyard sites in California. Cascading some 1,200 vertical feet down the Sonoma slope of the Mayacamas Mountains, this fascinating hillside location shows extreme diversity over 80 planted acres. Its southwest facing perch on the Sonoma side of Mount Veeder provides an amazing view of San Francisco and wines that are elegant, complex and sophisticated. Dan and Jeanne Schaefer began to plant vines on this site in 1990 after searching exhaustively for the ideal conditions in which to grow world-class Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.

Audelssa – the name, an abridgement of the Schaefer daughters’ names – is a winery that truly echoes its circumstances. The dramatic vineyards are inimitable thanks to restrictions on the development of hillside vineyards that went into effect in Sonoma County in 2000. Even the label reveals an image that could either be the extreme elevation or the strong winds that blow intensely over the terrain. These forceful conditions ultimately produce Audelssa wines. A worthy goal of a winery with moxie.

Clifford Bay Estate Winery

Awatere Valley, New Zealand

Eric and Beverley Bowers formed Clifford Bay Estate in 1994 after recognising early that the Awatere Valley in Marlborough, New Zealand was a region of great winemaking promise. Along with partners Graham and Thelma Cains and Chris Wilson the Estate vineyard was established on the banks of the beautiful Awatere River that flows from its birth in the high country alpine basins.
Since the first award winning vintage in 1997, Clifford Bay Estate has continued to produce exceptional wines from our own and several premium vineyards located in the Awatere Valley. Our latest Sauvignon Blanc continues a proud tradition of every vintage we have produced winning Gold Medals

The Marlborough region is widely recognised as producing the best Sauvignon Blanc the world has to offer and the Awatere Valley is becoming widely recognised for its own distinct Marlborough flavour. The climate is punctuated with cool nights and dry sunny days offering the grapes a long slow ripening period which in turn produces very aromatic and intensely flavoured wines.

Complementing those natural attributes are the skills in vineyard management and winemaking, which Managing Director Eric Bowers describes as "a great team operation”. The end result is four beautiful, award-winning Clifford Bay Estate wines. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

Kuleto Estate

Napa Valley, Calfornia

In 1992, culinary entrepreneur Pat Kuleto assembled five parcels from cattle ranchers to create a 761-acre ranch of wild hillside land on the eastern edge of the Napa Valley, overlooking Lake Hennessey, Pritchard Hill and the towns of Rutherford and St. Helena.

Plantings included cabernet sauvignon, sangiovese, pinot noir, chardonnay, syrah, zinfandel and muscat, planted at elevations ranging from 800 to 1450 feet. Construction of the state-of-the-art Kuleto-designed winery was finished in 2001, completing the vineyard estate that had grown to include extensive orchards, gardens, and a working ranch with sheep, fowl, cattle and fish from the property’s Lake Brunello.

Winemaker Dave Lattin and vineyard manager Alberto Ochoa individually cultivate and craft the small vineyard blocks at every stage of their development, focusing on lots as small as half a ton. Kuleto Estate is crafting excellent wines of character and distinction that reflect the remarkable attributes of their unique terroir.

Vavasour

Marlborough, New Zealand

The Vavasour family have a strong historical background. They can trace their ancestry back to the time of the Norman invasion of England. One of their ancestors is thought to have been a 'taster' for William the Conqueror. The rooster on the label is from the family crest, the emblem on the rooster is an indication of the family's lineage. The Vavasours arrived in New Zealand and established themselves in the Awatere Valley in 1890.

Nearly a century later in the early 1980's Peter Vavasour took a keen interest in the viticultural developments of the Wairau Valley in Marlborough. After some research it was found that the climate and soils of the Awatere region were quite similar to those of the Wairau.

We are dedicated to the Awatere region and our philosophy is to concentrate on fruit grown in the area. Selected grapes are handpicked; this ensures that only the best fruit makes it into the bottle. Our vineyards are trained on the 'vertical shoot positioning' trellis. This form of trellising suits our growing conditions: it also makes it easier if we have to manipulate the canopy due to seasonal growing conditions. Between Glenn (winemaker) and Allan (viticulturist) every effort has been made to ensure that the vineyard and viticultural techniques are adapted to suit the conditions of the Awatere region. After all great wine is made in the vineyard. In all its viticultural techniques Vavasour have focussed on quality over quantity.

Wattle Creek Winery

Cloverdale, California

Christopher and Kristine Williams were busy raising their family in Arizona when they received a call from a Sonoma County friend that would change their lives. A rare opportunity to purchase an Alexander Valley vineyard had presented itself and the Williams quickly boarded a plane to California in 1994 to view the property.

They were captivated with the beauty of the area and the special nature of the hillside property which is bordered by the famed Russian River. Within a day they made the decision to purchase the magical 56 acres that later became Wattle Creek Winery. Family and dogs in tow, they relocated permanently to California in 2001 and dedicated themselves to making wine that they and their friends would enjoy.

The Wattle Creek family has grown to include many new friends and customers who now enjoy Wattle Creek Wines. But the intent hasn't changed. Chris and Kristine strive to consistently produce estate wines which they and their friends will be proud to serve and share.
